The title is a bit misleading as the book's strongest sections dealt more with Pakistan's motivations in Afghan affairs than China's role in the insurgency. The book did have good points on Sino-Soviet relations between 1950 - 1980. This book is probably more useful to readers with a familiarity with the Afghan-Soviet War and may not be a great primer despite its short length.

I was very pleased with how concise this piece of work was and how efficiently it summed up what occurred in Afghanistan during the 1980s. As a grad student, my time for extra reading is highly limited, and for once, I didn't have to choose which parts of the book to read, finishing the entire thing in three hours, with copious notes for class. This publication was a fantastic piece of history that helped spell out exactly how complex and complicated the Soviet - Afghan conflict was and helps set the tone for the violence in the decade to follow. To any Middle East or South West Asia scholars, please pick up this publication, you will be very thankful you did. And for any non-scholars of the region, pick it up as well, it will help you understand a very confusing and often misrepresented part of the world.

Excellent book! A little hard to access instructor materials online if bought on Amazon.

I like this book a lot, we ordered quite a few to compare them. The pictures are clear and in color, the layout and heft is the right amount in my opinion. We were very happy with it - but BE ADVISED if you are not already a learning center in this company's online portal it can be a hassle to get added. We had to speak to 4 or 5 people and then someone (A very nice guy) had to do us a favor by adding us into the portal system just so that we could access the "Instructor Bonus Materials". The company advised buying directly from them in the future. If the exact company is the one supplying this book to Amazon, they need to clarify and make good on this sort-of mess that Amazon buyers who want the actual Instructor materials are being put in.

About the Author
Leon Chaitow ND DO is an internationally known and respected osteopathic and naturopathic practitioner and teacher of soft tissue manipulation methods of treatment. He is author of over 60 books, including a series on Advanced Soft Tissue Manipulation (Muscle Energy Techniques, Positional Release Techniques, Modern Neuromuscular Techniques) and also Palpation Skills; Cranial
Manipulation: Theory and Practice; Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Practitioner’s Guide to Treatment, and many more. He is editor of the peer reviewed Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, that offers a multidisciplinary perspective on physical methods of patient care. Leon Chaitow was for many years senior lecturer on the Therapeutic Bodywork degree courses which he helped to design at the School of Integrated Health, University of Westminster, London, where is he now an Honorary Fellow. He continues to teach and practice part-time in London, when not in Corfu, Greece where he focuses on his writing.

A Well Rounded and Thorough reference Book for anyone having exposure to those with FMS or CFS

Good book. Chaitow is an excellent researcher/teacher/writer in combination. Very practical book for those with patiants or clients with Fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. General info but i found it very helpfull as a MT, NMT with clients with FMS.

Informative and well written

The information in this book from Leon Chaitow alone is worth the price. In addition to his fine writing, he brings together many authors who are blazing trails in fibromyalgia research. They offer many treatment options and perceptions.

As Dr. Chaitow explains, it is now recognized by many researchers and practitioners that fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS)is often perpetuated by myofascial trigger points (TrPs). Most patients with FMS have TrPs as well, and treating the TrPs can significantly reduce the symptom load. Fibromyalgia and myofascial pain from TrPs are not the same. Many people have TrPs but do not have FMS. Knowing that the central sensitization of FMS is present in patients with both conditions will enable the practitioner to adjust TrP therapies accordingly. Dr. Chaitow is very clear about this.

Fibromyalgia is not yet curable, but it can be treated, and many of the components that add to the patient's burden can be minimized or eliminated with adequate treatment. This book is a toolbox full of ways to accomplish that task.

Whether you treat people with Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) or you have been diagnosed with FMS, Leon Chaitow's "Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Practioner's Guide to Treatment" may be exactly what you have been seeking. As a person living with FMS--who has read MUCH about this topic--I can tell you that this book is the best thing going. This practioner's guide is especially good for those familiar with "medicalese." But, even if you're a "beginner" with FMS who simply wants to help educate those on your health care team (physicians, massage therapists, chiropractors, etc.), owning this book will allow you to lend it to your practioners. I have no doubt that, after they have seen your copy, they will want to purchase their own.
In "Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Practioner's Guide to Treatment," Chaitow briefly describes a number of theories about FMS, discusses the validity of these, and explains the treatments that flow from the theories. Some of the treatments can be accomplished by persons with FMS; others require the cooperation of practioners on the health care team. Treatments are described in detail, supplemented with illustrations.

Little but Impressive

The book was much smaller than I expected and not what I expected al all.
However, I'm not building the retainer wall. My husband picked it up and started to read. He agreed it was more than he wanted to know but he does keep reading it. Engineers will love this book. The average lay person, like me, finds it overwhelming. For people who really want to know about concrete and retainer walls, not just pictures, it is a powerful little book.
