About the Author
Michael Howard, born in Vancouver, BC, in 1946, began sculpting at the age of fifteen. He received his B.F.A. from Eastern Michigan University and his M.A. in Fine Arts from Columbia Pacific University. He has studied the work of Rudolf Steiner since 1969. For thirty years, Michael has made an independent study of Rudolf Steiner s sculpture and taught primarily in Waldorf schools and anthroposophic centers, both in Europe and North America. Since 1985, he has taught sculpture at Sunbridge College in Spring Valley, New York. He is the leader of the Visual Art Section of the Anthroposophical Society in North America.

Every book this guy writes is mostly created in his head with no facts to back him up. He writes his own Amazon Reviews and I'm sure he's his own fact checker. He is poorly regarded by The Beatle community almost as much as Albert Goldman. Save your money and buy "Here, There and Everywhere : My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles" by Geoff Emerick. At least you'll read the truth.

Secret History?

This book is very poorly written from a number of perspectives.

The timeline is atrocious. For example, you'll read about the death of Brian Epstein, then 50+ pages later he appears again in another section with no indication that the timeline has changed. This jumping is very frequent, and appears all over the book. Poorly organized.

Opinion is everywhere. The author feels the need to inject his commentary on the Beatles' behaviors. Of course, don't expect any analysis of WHY Lennon was so moody, or WHY McCartney was dominating, or why Starr and Harrison were resentful. Don't even expect to get enough information to let you make some of your own conclusions either.

Another key failing in this book is the way it quickly glosses over key events leaving you wanting to know more - just one example is the whole period during which they recorded Revolver - the very title of the book! Another example is when Ringo is quoted as not thinking Sgt Peppers was their best work. Well, why not and what was Ringo's favorite? Mr, Guiliano, you opened the door for us, so why not let us walk through?

On the other hand, there is FAR too much detail on their time with the Maharishi and the general workings of that organization. Enough already! I want to read about the Beatles, not some controversial religious figure! There's also a lot of tawdry details on the love affairs, drug use/abuse, drug busts, and other seedy aspects of their career that are pure tabloid fluff.

Unforgivable beyond all others, there are obvious factual errors everywhere. I've just finished reading Geoff Emerick's incredibly intriguing book and I can easily tell where Guiliano has either not done proper research or is simply inventing stories that will sound interesting. There are several contradictions.

Overall, this is written like a collection of articles from People magazine (or whatever they had back then), with no real substance or depth to the content. I'm sorry I spent the money on it.

I was pretty dissapointed with this book. All the "inside information" has been pretty much common knowledge. Although "taking sides" is pretty much a natural in doing Beatles books, the author seems particularly anti Paul/Linda. It seemed to me the author's main interest wasn't even the Beatles, but Hare Krishna.

I'd suggest "Magical Mystery Tours, My Life With the Beatles" by Tony Bramwell. It was a much more detailed and enjoyable read.

Could be much better

This Dictionary could be much better. Reading its entries I found them skimpy , if not inaccurate. I checked out the entry for 'Israel' and there were two references to the Biblical Yaakov- Israel and not a word about the central place Israel plays in Jewish historical and religious consciousness.

About the Author
John W. Santrock received his Ph.D. from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. He taught at the University of Charleston and the University of Georgia before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has worked as a school psychologist and currently teaches developmental psychology and educational psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and introductory psychology at the undergraduate level. Dr. Santrock's research on father custody is widely cited and used in expert witness testimony to promote flexibility and alternative considerations in custody disputes. His research has included publication in the Journal of Educational Psychology that focus on the contextual aspects of affectively-toned cognition and children's self-regulatory behavior as well as teachers' perceptions of children from divorced families. He recently was a member of the editorial board of Developmental Psychology and his publications include these exceptional McGraw-Hill texts: CHILD DEVELOPMENT, Eighth Edition; LIFE-SPAN DEVELOPMENT, Seventh Edition; CHILDREN, Sixth Edition; PSYCHOLOGY, Sixth Edition; and EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.

The price of this book was reasonable compared to others of the same. I also found the international edition to be just the same as the North American edition. It was very helpful to me to be able to purchase it at such a great price. Seller highly recommended.

This book does a great job of starting with easy and fun concepts, then ramping up the difficulty gradually throughout the book. It covers lots of cool techniques that industry professionals use in AAA games such as shaders, splines, and particle systems. The code samples are especially helpful in mastering the tools of the trade. The author doesn't just teach techniques specific to video games, but also shows how to replicate techniques that the film industry has been using for decades such as parallax. If you are just starting to code video games, or want a well rounded lesson in a variety of important techniques, then I would definitely recommend this book for you!

This book presents a overview of the use of 2D graphics in XNA (C#) game programming. It begins with some basics on computer graphics, then covers sprites, animation, tile mapping, and 2D cameras. Then it goes on to a nice explanation of the various ways to simulate perspective with 2D graphics ("the 2.5D effect").
Next it covers fonts and menus, particles and special effects, and concludes with a chapter on the use of shaders (GPU programs) in 2D games and finally a chapter on achieving a polished look for your game.
It also contains the standard appendices on math that no one reads.

I was excited when Professor Pile announced his book publication. After meeting him in person I see that his book is a reflection of his strong commitment to teaching newcomers and converts the craft of game programming and design. You will definitely find this text book useful both in your personal library and in a classroom. He touches on advanced topics in computing right from the start, something sorely lacking in many game programming books today. The book is well designed and uses examples that are relevant to today's 2D game development marketplace. You will definitely learn something from this book.

Captivating Humour and Insight into an Amazing Country he Knows so Well

Anyone who has any experience with Greece, or for that matter even those with none, will find Matt's way of telling stories totally delightful. He has that rare gift of writing without pretences, sounding like he is just reminiscing and talking to a friend. Actually like talking to a friend while having an ouzo, which affords that occasional philosophical musing and intuition as to the deeper meanings of a given situation. He has a neat and dry sense of humour, and I have enjoyed his memoires of life in Greece like a modern day Henry Miller.

I first discovered his writings on his website http://greecetravel.com, where I found myself lost in story after story. His only fault perhaps is that you quickly forget what exact boat schedule you were looking for as you travel down his long and colourful memories of life and travel in all parts of Greece.

Great summer read!

An irresistible combination of travel stories, every-man philosophy and comedy make this book a great read. Often laugh out loud funny, Matt's wry outlook on life will engage the reader from the first chapter to the last. To sum it up, this book won't teach you the secrets of spearfishing but after reading it, you will feel you've have gained a new friend!

A great read!

An often laugh-out-loud recounting of the author's adventures and relationship with Greece over the years. I enjoyed the unpretentious, honest and insightful telling of his personal stories of Greece that made me feel I was listening to a great storyteller of the oral tradition.

Between the late 1960s and the late 1980s, Italy went crazy for “sexy fumetti," a home-grown genre of adult comics with a unique brand of twisted humor, violence, and up-front sexuality. Wilder and weirder than you can imagine, they were some of the most outrageous and shocking comics ever produced, and their eye-catching, highly provocative covers could be seen on every news stand and kiosk in the country. One of the most talented and prolific of the cover artists at Edifumetto—the foremost Italian producer of adult comics during this period—was Alessandro Biffignandi, whose work featured horror, fantasy, and sci-fi elements alongside plenty of naked female flesh. This book is a collection of some of the sexiest examples of Biffigandi’s cover art for Edifumetto, which is highly coveted by collectors today.

About the Author
Alessandro Biffignandi was born in Rome in 1935 and developed an interest in drawing and cartoons at a very young age. He attended art college, where he became fascinated by cinema posters, and on graduating he became an apprentice with the great Italian poster illustrator Averardo Ciriello. Biffigandi was head-hunted by the studio of Augusto Favelli, which at that time was Italy's biggest producer of film posters. In the 1960s, he moved to Milan and created cover artwork for the D’Ami studio, an art agency that produced comic strips for the UK market, including the famous Fleetway war comics. From 1970 until the early 1980s, he produced hundreds of high-quality covers for the adult comics titles published by Edifumetto—including Zora la Vampira, Cimiteria, and Biancaneve.  Biffigandi then left the world of comics to concentrate on magazine and book illustration.

Another serving of wild Italian pulp art

Last year I read and reviewed Sex and Horror: The Art of Emanuele Taglietti. I enjoyed it and when I learned the publisher was releasing a book on Allesandro Biffignandi, another Italian artist who produced covers for the erotic horror comics of the 1970's and 1980's, I decided to check it out. Biffignandi's work is similar to Taglietti's (indeed, both contributed to the same magazines). Worth noting is the feature Candida la Marchessa, involving a noblewoman turned thief after her fortune is lost. She comes across as a more sinister version of American pulp's Domino Lady. Cimiteria is a beautiful revived corpse who gets into supernatural adventures with her hunchback lover. Biffignandi also did erotic parodies of Zorro and classic literary works. All in all, if you like wild art that combines sex, nudity, violence and horror, this will be something you will want to see.

I love this book

I love this book, and the first book in the series featuring the works of Taglietti. These books collect the best of what the 1970s and 80s horror fumetti have to offer, considering the interior art is not worth remembering. But the covers in this book, by Biffignandi, are just amazing. Not for children or the squeamish, this book is nonetheless a beautiful tribute.
